How do they put veneers on broken teeth?

dental veneers boiseDental veneers are commonly used to restore the natural look and function of broken teeth. The process typically involves the following steps:

  • Consultation. An initial assessment by a dentist of the tooth damage to determine whether veneers are an appropriate solution.
  • Tooth preparation. To prepare teeth for porcelain veneer placement, a small amount of enamel is removed from the surface to create space for the veneer and ensure proper fit. This removal of enamel is irreversible, so veneers are considered irreversible.
  • Impression. An impression of the prepared tooth is taken to custom-craft a veneer that matches the shape, size, and color of the surrounding teeth.
  • Temporary veneer. A temporary veneer may be placed to protect the tooth while the permanent veneer is fabricated in a dental lab.
  • Bonding. Once the permanent veneer is ready, the dentist ensures proper fit and alignment and then permanently bonds the veneer to the tooth using dental cement.

Keep in mind that once a dental veneer is in place, proper oral hygiene practices and regular dental exams are essential to maintaining its health and longevity and ensuring that any issues are promptly addressed.
